Loc8 Mobile (Pty) Limited (“Loc8″) is a Namibian telecommunication company duly registered within the Republic of Namibia that provides commercial telecommunications services.
Loc8 is a next-generation (NxGen) Internet Services Provider which offers commercial telecommunications solutions (Microwave and FTTx) in Namibia. Loc8 leverages existing networks & infrastructure from other providers to position mobile, wireless and fixed broadband services, commercially. The brand identity of “Connected – Anywhere, Anytime!” focuses on a holistic user concept that means connection services that provide a seamless user-extension experience of a national coverage nature.
Loc8’s seamless national connectedness concept includes bridging, where necessary, any FTTx “gap-connections/ last mile” like FTTh (Fibre to the Home) or FTTb (Fibre to the Business) to realise this vision of bridging the digital divide and serving the underprivileged.
Bridging the Namibian Digital Divide
During the 4th quarter of 2021, Namibian coverage stood at 89% for 3G, an increase from 78% recorded in 2019. 79% of the population is now covered by 4G (an increase from 40%: 2019), no 5G commercial deployments. While Namibia has a submarine cable landing at its shores, its’s current per capita International bandwidth usage is half that of South Africa and Mauritius and similar to Botswana’s (Botswana is landlocked).
Out of 70,000 xDSL connections, only 2,500 were at a speed of 10 Mbps or above. Another 1,800 connections with fibre to the home (FTTh) could also be considered suitable broadband. In total, only 4,300 households had a suitable wired broadband connection in 2020.

What's the deference between Microwave and Fiber?
Fiber (FTTX) OR Fiber-to-the-home (FTTH)
Fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) is the delivery of a communications signal over optical Fiber to a home or business. FTTH is a relatively new and fast-growing method of providing higher bandwidth to your premises and provides you with the latest digital technology. Fiber is subject to availability in your area.
Microwave (Wireless Internet)
Microwave Internet is an internet connection delivered over the ‘last mile’ by a high capacity microwave radio link, it is also known as radio shot, WiMAX, wifi link, wireless internet. Microwave installations are not complicated and are mostly subject to coverage as compared to physical fiber installed close to your home.
What is VAT Exemption?
The supply of telecommunications services to residential accounts (i.e. a natural person) is zero-rated supplies and this means that “home users” don’t have to pay VAT.
How long does it take for my account to be setup after signing up
This is directly proportional to the telecommunications service the client has applied for.
Fiber installations typically have a waiting period of 6-8 weeks AND Microwave installation has will be finalised within a week (five business days).
All of this is subject to a Line of sight (LoS) propagation survey done by the Loc8 installations and activations team.
What is the difference between Fair usage policies (FUP) and Uncapped?
Fair Usage Policy (FUP)
Fair Usage Policy (FUP) is implemented by Internet Service Providers (ISPs) keeping in view the fact that a small number of customers may otherwise use an excessive amount of the network bandwidth and impairs the experience of a large majority. Once a customer reaches that certain data transfer limit (defined in the particular package), speed is reduced as stated in the package.

The uncapped internet plans provide an unlimited amount of data every month for a single monthly fee.
